Nihad Awad – Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) – a profile

Nihad Awad a practitioner of Taqiyya

Nihad Awad is among the founders of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and serves as its executive director. In that role, he has attained a degree of political clout, invited to stand beside President George W. Bush at the Islamic Center of Washington days after the 9/11 attacks.[1] Before that, Vice President Al Gore appointed Awad to a civil rights advisory panel for the White House Commission on Aviation Safety and Security.[2]

These are influential recognitions for a man with past ties to Hamas, designated a foreign terrorist organization by the United States in 1995. In fact, Awad publicly declared “I am in support of the Hamas movement,” during a March 1994 symposium at Barry University.[3]

That statement came six months after Awad attended a secret three-day summit in Philadelphia attended by people the FBI considered Hamas members or supporters.[4] During a 2003 deposition, Awad would not deny attending the meeting, saying he didn’t remember whether he did.[5] (more…)

Why Islam’s god is not the God of Christianity

Why Islam’s god is not the God of Christianity

Our Religion Is One – Muslims And Christians Worship The Same God

A bold statement by  made on the CAIR website on Thursday, 21 January 2016.  It is something that has been repeated on a number of occasions by both Muslims and Christians (and I use the latter loosely).  It is based on the claim that the Jewish, Christian and Islamic  faiths all find their roots in the Abrahamic tradition. While it is clear that Christianity has Abrahamic roots, as Christ taught He was the Messiah promised in the Jewish tradition and Scriptures, it is another matter for Islam to claim that it also follows the Abrahamic god.

The basic Islamic proposition is that God gave the Jews and the Christians (the people of the book) His revelation and both Jews and Christians perverted the message to such an extent that God had to send Muhammad to bring them back to Himself.  This means that both Jews and Christians were originally Muslim (as was all their prophets including Jesus) but perverted the true Islamic message.  Muhammad knew that he needed to get people to believe that he was a prophet in the line of Abrahamic prophets.  It was the only way anyone would take him seriously.

Christians who embrace Isalm are reverts

Therefore, when someone converts to Islam from one of these religions they are called reverts rather than converts.  In fact, Islam goes even further than this by saying that every person in the world is born a Mulsim and that it is their upbringing by their parents that takes them away from Islam, the true religion.

The term “revert” stems from the Muslim belief that all people are born with a natural faith in God. According to Islam, children are born with an innate sense of submission to God, which is called the fitrah. Their parents may then raise them in a particular faith community, and they grow up to be Christians, Buddhists, etc.

The Prophet Muhammad once said: “No child is born except upon fitrah (i.e. as a Muslim). It is his parents who make him a Jew or a Christian or a polytheist” (Sahih Muslim).

Some people, then, see their embrace of Islam as a “return” back to this original, pure faith in our Creator. A common definition of the word “revert” is to “return to a former condition or belief.” A revert is returning back to that innate faith that young children innately connect to.

This article  goes on to say that revert is used by Muslims because they are the ones who understand the real meaning of the term.

This is the basis of the claim that Christians and Muslims worship the same god.

A clear perversion of the Scriptures

Awad talks about the Wheaton controversy and says of Wheaton:

In fact, the Muslim declaration of faith (shahada) states: “There is no god but God.”

Here Awad states the classical Islamic position.  The god of Muhammad is the only true god.   Do not be fooled, he is not saying the Christian and Jewish God is a valid god, he is repeating the Islamic position that only  the god of Muhammad is the true god.  His use of the Arabic term for god (Allah) is a red herring.  Arabic speaking Christians do use Allah but not in the same sense as Islam.  They are talking about the Allah (God) of the Bible, not the god of Islam.

Notice that Awad always refers to the Quran and never to the Christian Scriptures.  This tells us that he is taking the classical Islamic position.

In the Quran, Islam’s revealed text, God clearly states the unity of monotheistic faiths:

“Say: ‘We believe in God, and in that which has been bestowed from on high upon us, and that which has been bestowed upon Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and their descendants, and that which has been vouchsafed to Moses and Jesus, and that which has been vouchsafed to all the [other] prophets by their Sustainer: we make no distinction between any of them. And it is unto Him that we surrender ourselves.’” (The Holy Quran, 2:136)

God also states: “(Rest assured that) those who believe (in the Quran), and those who follow the Jewish (scriptures), and the Christians. . .whoever believes in God and the last day and performs good deeds – will be rewarded by their Lord. They will have nothing to fear or to regret.” (The Holy Quran, 2:62).

As Christians, we accept the Scriptures as the only authority when it comes to faith and practice.  So it really does not matter what Muhammad, or anyone else says, about the nature of God and salvation, the only thing that matters to Christians is what the Scriptures say – and they completely contradict the Quran and Muhammad.  But as far as Islam’s teachings on Christians and Jews, and their salvation,  Awad is indulging in Taqiyya.  He knows that what he is saying here is not the mainstream Islamic view of the salvation of Christians and Jews.  It is a typical attempt to deceive the uninformed and naive and it seems to have worked with many.

There are several forms of lying to non-believers that are permitted under certain circumstances, the best known being taqiyya. These circumstances are typically those that advance the cause of Islam – in some cases by gaining the trust of non-believers in order to draw out their vulnerability and defeat them.

This can be seen by looking through Christians, Jews and Muslims in Heaven (Qur’an 2:62) or The Religion of Peace’s treatment of violence in the Quran.  Both these articles, using the Quran as the basis of their conclusions, illustrates Awad’s attempt at deception – Christians and Jews are condemned to hell and were slaughted by Muhammad and his follwers.

Awad closes his article by saying:

It is up to the mainstream followers of all faiths to reject rigid and extremist ideologies and to come together to marginalize extremists of all stripes.

Christians who believe that Christ is the only way to God (myself included) are among the people that put forward these rigid and extremist ideologies.  We are extremists because we maintain the Gospel of Christ which is despised by Islam.  For the serious Christian, watch the attached debate on the apostle Paul and see what Islam teaches about him – maybe the most hated man in Islam because his message is hated.  Dr Shabir Ally is probably the leading moderate Muslim debater in the world today.
